Our
Story

first start to pool house.jpg

In 2000 Mark and Lynda bought the site at 33 Kerrs Road and set about building their family home.

There was a cottage with several outbuildings on the site which were demolished to make way for the footprint of the house and pool house.  At this stage the foundations of the pool house were dug out but it took several more years before the structure of the pool house was built.

Mark is a joiner by trade & also a non swimmer.  He wanted to build a family pool so he could teach himself to swim.  He set himself a task to build the pool house and this commenced in 2006.  We had 5 years of a large hole in our back garden.

About the Pool

We, as a family, enjoyed 10 good years of using the pool for ourselves, and yes, Mark did teach himself to swim in it.   In 2009, we converted the pool house into our wedding venue and finally tied the knot.   Of course there was the wedding guest joker who came with his armbands on – always one!

At the end of 2015 we made the decision to make a business of the pool house and carried out some works to convert it for public use with adding in the second changing room.  Early 2016 we started hiring out the pool and then delivered swimming lessons in partnership  withCossum Swim School. We also worked with Waterbabies and Swimini over this period and then went out solo with our favourite swim teacher Kathy Gray.

Unfortunately, we were closed for a couple of years due to a car accident in late 2017 that Mark & I were involved in and then of course the joys of Covid followed after that.  But happily, we reopened in June 2021 on a part time basis.

Guide Dog

In December 2016 we sponsored our first guide dog Lexi and then in 2022 we started to sponsor Moose (as in the image) and we post updates on his progress on our Facebook site.

What is lovely for Mark and I is that both our grandchildren have been taught to swim in Kerrs Road Pool by Kathy.  Cameron in 2016 and Ruby in 2023, who is still attending.

Over the years we have made other alterations to the pool house and still like to improve upon the experience of using Kerrs Road Pool, as we enjoy sharing it with others to use.  Then in January 2023 Mark made the decision to be more involved with the running of Kerrs Road Pool so we extended our opening hours.

Kerrs Road Pool is still our family pool which we use and enjoy as a family and we hope you have enjoyed reading Our Story.

Thank you
